CHAPTER NEWS

June 17, 2008 - Republican Congressional candidate John Lerew, running for the seat in the U. S. House of Representatives representing Colorado's 7th Congressional District, was the Guest Speaker at last night's Chapter meeting that was held in Denver. John focused on what he considers to be the three biggest issues facing Congress during this election year; namely, energy, the economy, and health care. His speech was followed by a lively question and answer period which covered a wide range of issues.

Also visiting was Mark Hillman, who was recently elected to be Colorado's Representative on the Republican National Committee.

Thanks largely by a plug given by local conservative talkshow host Mike Rosen on his morning radio program, there were numerous visitors who joined the meeting to learn more about CCM and the Denver Metro Chapter. Several were sufficiently interested to become new members of CCM.

Because of the many visitors, Chapter President Tom Blanton gave an overview of our organizational structure and the activities in which the Chapter is involved. Vice-President Jack Ott and Committee Chairwoman Karen Leck gave brief reports on progress being made by the various Chapter committees, as well as a report on the Chapter's successful presence at the State GOP Convention on May 31. Treasurer and Membership Committee Chairman described new member recruiting efforts that are underway.

June 17, 2008 - CCM-Denver Metro Chapter committees have been actively meeting and planning for grassroots activities that will be taking place within the next few months. The major focus has been on those activities that will take place during the August Democratic National Convention to be held in Denver. Working in conjunction with the National organization, the Denver group will be staffing a Media Contact Center, providing local views and opinions in response to expected media inquiries.

Meanwhile, the Chapter's Energy Committee is arduously working on ways to influence the ongoing battle in Congress over national energy policy, gathering public support for domestic drilling, loosening of federal rules and regulations inhibiting the availability if domestic oil, and making this support known to mem- bers of the House and Senate.

Other committees are developing ways to enhance the organization's functionality as well as its public image through the use of the internet and mechanized systems to improve both internal and external information flow.

Membership participation on the committees has, in general, been good. Most Chapter members participate on at least one committee, and some serve on two or more.

June 1, 2008 - The Denver Metro Chapter of the Coalition for a Conservative Majority made its presence known on Saturday at the Colorado Republican Assembly and Convention. Members answered questions and distributed educational literature at the statewide function in its first large-scale public activity since the organization was formally activated in April.

Wearing "CCM" t-shirts and buttons saying "Ask me about CCM", members answered questions from passers-by at its vendor table, while others mingled with the crowds and talked to curious convention attendees that numbered in the thousands.

Volunteers also made important contacts with political candidates and other notable Colorado conservatives, explaining what the organization is and does, and inviting some to address the Chapter at its monthly meetings.

Among the CCM members that participated were a few that were also designated Convention delegates or alternates.

At least three members of the Denver Metro Chapter will be traveling to St. Paul to serve as delegates or alternates at the Republican National Convention, September 1-4.
