Denver Conservatives Slam Pelosi’s Government Control” Energy Plan

DENVER, CO – Members of the local chapter of Coalition for a Conservative Majority (CCM) today attended a Democrat leadership press conference outside of Union Station that was billed as a roll-out of a “Comprehensive Strategy for American Energy Independence”. The photo-op was held immediately after an energy press conference with CCM CO Chairman Bob Beauprez, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint, and Americans for Prosperity’s Jim Pfaff.

Today, Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Colorado Rep. Ed Perlmutter and other liberal leaders simply reinforced what we already knew about the Democrat’s energy plan, it will impose heavy taxes, negatively impact the economy, and severely restrict free market solutions,” said CCM Denver Metro President Don Garretson. “Coloradans must be free to develop the vast resources that the Western United States has abundantly available in the form of oil shale and natural gas without the severe government intervention that the Democrats are proposing.”

During the event, Pelosi became visibly agitated at those in attendance as they chanted “Drill here, drill now!” and she replied by asking the pro-drilling crowd “Can we drill your brains?”

Meanwhile back in Washington. DC, conservatives in the House of Representatives have taken to the floor of Congress for the last 18 days to call on Speaker Pelosi to hold a vote on H.R. 6566 – the American Energy Act.

Earlier in the day, CCM CO Chairman Bob Beauprez questioned Pelosi’s ability to lead on the issue. “Liberals, led by Nancy Pelosi, have no interest in providing solutions to the American people unless those solutions work for their special interest groups – radical environmentalists and unions,” Beauprez said. “Their new ‘plan’, which is clearly a conventional campaign photo-op and not a legislative agenda, has more to do with social engineering than bringing down the price at the pump.”
