Conservative Activists Demand Congressmen Sign Discharge Petition for Energy Bills

"While Congress is getting ready to recess for more than a month, the American public continues to face some of the highest gas prices in a generation. We assembled here today to demand action from Congress, specifically calling for our Members of Congress to sign the discharge petition that will stop the stalling and bring this issue to an immediate vote,," CCM Southwest Pennsylvania chapter president Stephen Cady said.
The CCM chapter says it is strongly supporting H.R. 6566, the American Energy Act, a bill the group claims will bring down energy prices by increasing safe, domestic production, encouraging the development of alternative and renewable energy, and promoting conservation.
"There is no way around it - we need more production of American energy and the liberal leadership in Congress needs to stop resisting what the public is demanding. We need a comprehensive plan that increases energy production here at home and creates good-paying, American jobs. The American Energy Act is a vital part of the solution to our current energy crisis and it's time for Congress to quit stalling," Cady said.
The group of conservative grassroots activists is planning to attend area political events throughout the election cycle until Congressmen Altmire (PA-4) and Tim Murphy (PA-18) agree to sign discharge petitions for the American Energy Independence and Price Reduction Act (H.R. 6107), as well as, the Deep Ocean Energy Resources Act (H.R. 6108). These bills would unlock energy resources in Alaska's remote North Slope and allow states to explore vast energy resources far off American shores, respectively, according to their sponsors. By garnering a majority of signatures (218), the petitions will allow these bills to bypass House leadership and trigger an immediate floor vote.
