CCM Chairman Ken Blackwell's Statement on Supreme Court Decision to Overturn D.C. Gun Ban
Washington, D.C. - Ken Blackwell, Chairman of Coalition for a Conservative Majority and lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, today released the following statement as the U.S. Supreme Court made the historic ruling to overturn the District of Columbia gun ban.
"Today's strong ruling is a major victory for individual rights, the safety of our citizens, and the U.S. Constitution. Their decision proves that despite liberal opinion, the Constitution still means something in the country, and the intent of our Founding Fathers to allow our citizens to be safe and free was finally upheld.
"The impact will sweep across the country, offering law abiding citizens the right to protect themselves in moments of confrontation, against the criminals who seem to be the only ones always packing.
"The fight is not over. As the former mayor of a large city I've seen first hand the ability of governments at all level to overly regulate the sale and possession of guns, and their licensing. Such is the case in D.C., where a city government turned a right and a responsibility into an untenable burden and a felony. It's the responsibility of all gun owners to keep our elected officials accountable and informed, and this ruling will hopefully lead to an increase in responsible, law abiding gun owners taking back our cities."
Blackwell is a frequent commentator on the issue of gun rights, and has penned numerous columns on the issue, available at www.Townhall.com.
